Tap Tap Coldplay was reviewed with version 1.0. When you trigger revenge mode, the screen fills with bubbles and butterflies. The backdrops are loaded with photos and art associated with the band. Tap Tap Coldplay uses a 2D interface for the majority of the game (but not all), which is a change-up from the 3D note bars on previous games. That latter feature is sure to be a favorite with fans. Taap Tap Coldplay features Facebook connect for instant score sharing with friends and a news service that offer updates on the band. If you play through the entire list of songs for each difficulty, you will be jamming your iDevice for anywhere between 15 to 45 minutes. The game uses the complete songs, so plan on spending upwards of four to five minutes with each track. The "boss battles" at the end of each stage are particularly challenging, too. Easy mode is way too easy, but medium and hard offer a good challenge that ramps up along a nice learning curve. The note layouts in Tap Tap Coldplay are well matched with the music. More important, though, is whether or not they are any fun to interact with. The song selections stretch across their albums and contain some of their biggest hits, like "Clocks," "Viva la Vida," and "Speed of Sound." Through speakers or headphones, the songs sound strong and crisp.
However, I can easily see that Coldplay superfans will dig this game. I do not love their music, but I do not lunge for the dial when they come on the radio either. I find them distracting and occasionally unresponsive. Fortunately, there is an option to turn off the motion controls, which I have never liked in any of the Tap Tap titles. After hitting 50 notes in a row, you can shake your device to go into revenge mode, which amps your score for as long as you keep hitting notes. When arrows appear, you must move the iDevice in the specified direction. As the notes pass a marker along the bottom of the screen, you must tap or hold your finger. Notes stream down three bars on the screen. Tap Tap Coldplay (the short name for the game in the App Store) plays almost exactly like the other Tap Tap Revenge titles, such as Tap Tap Dance and the Nine Inch Nails edition.
